Lida Vets was formed in 1991 by husband and wife Josh and Liz Lida. Initially, there were two rooms in what was then Greenwood Ellis and Partners at 166 High Street. In 1992 a little building next door became available and luckily we were able to secure it. It was a quaint old building that saw at least two centuries of old Newmarket around it. Originally, where the car parks are, there were small houses and it served as a workshop and then an Electricity Board station. Later it became a base for an oil research firm and it was then that we had the building gutted and refitted as a modern veterinary practice.
In the early nineties, wet-chemistry tanks were still used for x-rays and we bought new surgical items only when we could afford them. There was only one vet (Josh) and one nurse (Toni Stagg). In 1995 we employed Joyce Williams as our first receptionist and bookkeeper and she has stayed with us all these years as the surgery grew.
We swiftly moved into our present premises and set out to be an independent practice dedicated purely to small animals. Over the years we have grown and developed our services but we remain a family-run team working to the same principles. Most of our staff are local and have worked with us for many years - to read more about the team follow the staff page.
We aim to see every needy small animal and deliver efficient state-of-the-art healthcare as affordably as possible - how do we achieve this goal?
