The team at Lida's is always striving to meet and exceed customer expectations in all areas, and we do so by implementing policies that reduce waste and use manufacturers and materials which conform to ISO 9001 Standards and Good Manufacturing Practices.

We acknowledge that our operations have an impact on our environment, and have identified the following key aspects that contribute to our environmental and carbon footprint:-

  • Consumption of electricity, gas, water and other fuels
  • Waste generation
  • Anaesthetic gas emissions
  • Emissions from transport
  • Use of raw materials, especially paper
  • Procured goods and services with their own environmental impact

The practice's upper level management is committed to ensuring the practice can run as sustainably as possible. The management's commitment to this has allowed the team to implement strategies which provide a safe and healthy work environment for our employees, while guaranteeing quality service to our clients and patients. Our business is strengthened by protecting the safety, health and environment of our employees, our customers and the people of our community.

As part of our commitment to reducing our impact on the environment, we currently hold a silver level accreditation with the IIE accreditation scheme. In the next 12 months, we aim to maintain this accreditation.

Our environmental commitment can be demonstrated in our established objectives and goals below:-

  • Compliance with all applicable standards, laws, requirements, regulations, and public/customer expectations
  • Biannual monitoring of resource usage
  • Implementation of strategies to reduce resource consumption
  • Compliance with existing waste management protocols
  • Continue with utilisation of renewable energy sources
  • Perform and distribute an annual organisational sustainability audit and report
  • Execute the established staff travel plan
  • Encourage continued compliance with Linnaeus' 'low flow' campaign for reduction of anaesthetic gas usage
  • Utilise procurement policies that are in line with our environmental goals

We will continue to improve our environmental management system by working to the IIE criteria, considering any changes in legislation, our organisation, and other factors. Lida Vets will make this policy available upon request, to any interested parties including staff and members of the public. A copy will be available on the practice website.

Kerry Kerr is our sustainability champion and has designated responsibility for the day-to-day implementation of this policy.
